Debt Management Programs

How these Programs Work

Debt management programs have been used by consumers to reduce debt and curtail assuming more debt. In order to successfully manage your debt, it is very important to assess what debt you currently have and devise a plan to reduce that debt.

Debt management programs may also be known as:

  • Credit counseling
  • Consumer Credit Counseling Services or CCCS
  • Debt Repayment Plans
  • Debt Consolidation Services
  • Credit Card Counseling Services

Debt management programs are in place to assist the consumer devise that plan. Reputable debt management companies normally do not charge for their debt management services. They work directly with the credit card companies that debt is owed to and can help reduce payments, reduce fees and interest on accounts that are past due or in threat of becoming past due. This service is available to any consumer, but should be considered a last resort to manage your debt.

Here are some tips for debt management:

  • Stop using or destroy your credit cards.
  • Do not seek or apply for new credit
  • Don't spend more than what you can afford
  • If possible, pay more than the "minimum amount due" on your credit accounts.
  • Avoid using your credit cards for "cash advances"

Be sure that any debt management company that you consider for services has a good reputation and can answer any questions you may have concerning debt management.
