Responsible Debt Management
When you find that your spending habits are out of control and you need help with debt management, the quicker you admit to your debt problem, the easier it will become to start to deal with it. If you don't start now, however, your debt management problem can simply grow.
If you are serious about learning to manage your debt more responsibly, here are some very good suggestions for setting yourself up on the right debt management track. Read over each suggestion very carefully, and, even if you can manage just one for now, this will be a very good start. Before you know it, you will have the help that you need.
*Now is the time to cut out any unusual purchases. You must get down to the minimum in your spending without except -- so, no luxuries. Stop buying alcohol and all other expensive drinks. Stop going to the theater, stop taking taxi rides, stop buying cigarettes and other tobacco, go to a cafe, which is cheaper and stay away from the four star restaurants.
*When shopping for the family, walk away from those expensive brand names. Instead, look for the bargains. At the food stores, think generics and walk away from the branded goods, which are in two-for-one deals. You can find the same amount for much less when you shop for the supermarkets own brands.
*When you shop always make lists to avoid impulse buying. If you falter in your choices, return them for a cash refund and don't replace those items. When you do this over several months, after a time, you won't need lists. You will simply choose the better buys and your pocket book will reflect this. This is what good debt management is all about -- the basics.
*Make a new resolve to NOT use those costly credit cards. Without exception, when shopping, leave the credit cards in a safe place at home. In the event of an emergency ONLY and you MUST use a credit card, only use the one with the lowest interest rate. If you feel that you are an impulse spender and that you will carry your credit cards with you, you may wish to cut up your store credit cards and those with higher interest rates. This will take the temptation to impulse buy away over time. Once you have gained complete control over your credit card spending you can try again to use ONLY one credit card that has the lower interest rates.
Those who are able to modify their spending habits and are able to save more soon have their debt management issues under control. It takes good practice and lots of discipline. It can be done!
